Rosemarie Somaiah

Rosemarie Somaiah, storyteller, teacher and
writer is Partner at
Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore’s first professional
storytelling company.
Rosemarie has taught
young and old, led workshops and told stories in local and international
schools, over the radio, in the libraries, and even on the MRT! She has
performed in Singapore, Scotland, Hong Kong and Hungary at venues such
as the Singapore History Museum, The Arts House, the Asian Civilizations
Museum, the Substation, Singapore Art Museum, and at festivals like
Kidsfest, The Asian Children’s Festival and The Singapore International
Storytelling Festival and the Scottish Storytelling Festival.
In addition to other writing, her books in print
include a comic for the Singapore History Museum, the children’s book,
Gateway to Singapore Culture (Asiapac Books, 2004), as well as
Colours of Harmony (2005), Colours of Love (2006) and A
Giving Heart (2007) published by the Inter-Religious Harmony Circle,
supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, to
promote Racial Harmony. Her popular Indian Children’s Favourite
Stories is available online and at all good bookstores.
Rosemarie currently leads The Storytellers’ Circle of the
Society for Reading and Literacy (SRL). She is a member of the Singapore
Drama Educators Association (SDEA).
In her work with the
Asian Storytelling Network she offers storytelling performances,
storytelling training and story consultancy. Training programmes
include:
● Storytelling
performances and workshops for students of all ages, including
four programmes endorsed by the National Arts Council under the Arts
Education Programme;
● Talks
and workshops for parents on storytelling in the family;
● Workshops
for teachers on storytelling in the classroom context;
● Courses
and workshops for librarians on story reading and storytelling
techniques;
● Workshops
for corporate
managers and leaders
on the use of storytelling in organizations;
● Customised
performances and workshops are also available.
