Sheila
Wee
 Sheila
Wee has been a professional storyteller since 1999 and is a key leader
in the revival of oral storytelling in Singapore. She is a partner at
Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore’s first professional
storytelling company.
Sheila has taught
numerous storytelling courses and workshops for adults, both
independently and in conjunction with organisations such as the National
Book Development Council (Singapore), the Ministry of Education
(Singapore) and the Storytelling Association (Singapore). In addition,
through her work under the National Arts Council’s Arts Education
Programme Sheila has taught storytelling to hundreds of primary and
secondary school students.
In her international
work, Sheila has conducted workshops for the Society for Storytelling
(UK), the Australian National Storytelling Festival and for the
Longman’s Storytelling Conference in Hong Kong. She has performed at the
Scottish International Storytelling Festival, the Australian National
Storytelling Festival, the Skye and Lochalsh Storytelling Festival and
at various schools and community venues throughout the UK.
Sheila loves telling stories to adults and children
alike. She is comfortable telling to a crowd of over a thousand, but she
particularly enjoys the chance for an intimate gathering of children or
adults, where the power of story can truly be revealed. Sheila’s
multicultural repertoire includes Singaporean myths and legends, Asian
and Western folktales and lively participation and prop stories.
In her work with the Asian Storytelling Network she
offers storytelling performances, storytelling training and story
consultancy. Training programmes include:
● Storytelling
performances and workshops for students of all ages, including
four programmes endorsed by the National Arts Council under the Arts
Education Programme;
● Talks
and workshops for parents on storytelling in the family;
● Workshops
for teachers on storytelling in the classroom context;
● Courses
and workshops for librarians on story reading and storytelling
techniques;
● Workshops
for corporate
managers and leaders
on the use of storytelling in organizations;
● Customised
performances and workshops are also available.
