(3) Ordinary
Membership
Criteria: -
Ordinary Membership is only open to
professional tellers resident in Singapore, a professional storyteller
being one who is hired specifically to tell stories at an event. For
professional storytellers, SAS will function as a valuable network
providing support, training and opportunities.
- Since SAS is
endorsing an Ordinary Member (OM) as a competent teller who merits a
professional fee, the SAS committee needs to be assured of a prospective
OM’s experience and ability. The committee is authorised to interview
and observe each applicant in action. However, the committee reserves
the right to waive the need for an audition.
- When applying for ordinary membership, please submit a resume
detailing your storytelling experience: i.e. where and for whom have you
performed, your story repertoire (of at least 20 stories), a list of at
least three forthcoming performances which SAS committee representatives
may observe.
- NB: Using stories as a part of your work (e.g. as a
teacher, librarian, counsellor, trainer) does not fall within SAS’
definition of “professional storyteller”. If you wish to join the SAS,
we encourage you to become an Associate Member.
Membership Fees:
a) $70/annum (plus one-time registration
charge of $10);
b) $100/annum for your own page on the SAS website
Benefits:
- One
page listing on SAS website
-
Networking possibilities with
other professional tellers in Singapore
- Priority
registration and discounted rates for master classes conducted by
visiting professional tellers
- Discounted
rates for SAS workshops and other storytelling-related events in
Singapore
-
Discounted ticket prices to
performances by SAS members
- Discounts on storytelling/teaching resources
and other merchandise and services
- Invitations
to story swops to practise storytelling and exchange stories
- Access
to a monthly e-newsletter detailing storytelling events
Please Note: Current membership
expires on 31 December 2008 and any renewals after 31st January 2009
will incur the $10 registration fee.
